Student Enrollment

General Registration & Enrollment Information:

Who:  All school-age children who live in Massachusetts are entitled to attend the public school in their town of residence free of charge and all children between the ages of 6 and 16 must attend school. Kindergarten entrance age:  Children must turn 5 years old on or before August 31st (there are NO exceptions to the age qualification). Elementary School assignment is based on your home address. Please refer to our School Assignment & Attendance Area Page to determine which school your child(ren) will attend.

Where:  Grades K - Grade 8 - Central School Department Offices, 2nd floor (Municpal Building), 212 Main Street. Park in the rear of the building, off of Crafts Avenue by the Peter Pan Bus Station.  Grades 9-12:  Northampton High School, 380 Elm Street, Northampton (Call the Guidance Department at (413) 587-1353 to set an appointment).  Registration must be completed in person.

Students in Grades 6-8 are strongly encouraged to register no later than the first week in June to allow time to meet with guidance and review the course selection catalog.  Please visit the JFK Guidance Page for additional information.   For families relocating to Northampton, enrollment is open and ongoing, there is no deadline to enroll your student.

Please download forms below and bring the following required documents:

 Note:  Only a parent or legal guardian can register a child for school.

  1. The childs original Birth Certificate (with seal)
  2. Proof of residency (1 of these documents: Utility Bill, purchase & sale agreement, lease, official US Post Office change of address form, Tax bill)
  3. The childs immunization records and proof of a recent physical exam within the past 12 months
  4. Photo Identification of parent/guardian registering child
  5. If Applicable:  Custody Documentation
  6. If Applicable:  The student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Accommodation Plan
  7. All Grades but K:  Student's most recent Report Card or Grades, Evaluations and other documents from their previous school
  8. If Applicable:  Passport or Visa (for non-citizens)
